Lyrics On the corner there is a building that is Empty and all worn down Across the street there is a chain-link fence Dividing up the sordid parts of town The ground has all been paved away, there is No vegetation to be found Gas stations line the left Fast food is on the right Industrial fences on either side The roads are wide and the distances far You cant reach anything without a car Streets symmetrical with putrid orange lights Skies cluttered up with electrical lines Warehouses line the left Parking lots are to your right Concrete walls surround us on all sides Its not designed with pedestrian zones Just for automotive transportation The car and oil companies set the tone In this strip mall enslaved nation Life in an automobile Plastic doors, steel belted wheels Not sure how fresh air really feels The sun sets down, the weather is beautiful Autumn comes and the leaves begin to fall Unknown in a climatized cubical Youre safe from the seasons and all thats natural Concrete slabs and traffic lights Freeway systems far and wide A beautiful place to spend the rest of your life Playgrounds settled beneath the freeway bridge Sewage flowing by in a concrete ditch Nobodys playing in the parks at all Theyre spending all there time in a shopping mall Roadside motels to the left Drive-throughs are to your right Convenient stores and neon all night Gated communities keep us apart Barbed wire fences and security guards Offices separated in commercial zones Ensuring heavy traffic is always on the roads Mass produced habitation Standardized bulk consumption Burdened by overregulation Its the same at every intersection |
