Fight For Your Rights

From the album Princesses & Prostitutes (2007)

This song was inspired by the legalization of professional women's boxing in 1993 and  a tragic event which occurred shortly thereafter.. The song was actually the absolute first song made in 2005, but was omitted from the Tips & Tricks album.

Lyrics

Beat her, kick her, punch her, fight for your rights

The year is 1993

A woman has earned the right to fight

Fighting is as natural as equality

What kind of a woman wants to fight?

Authorized brutality

What kind of a girl gets her strength

From making another woman bleed?

It’s a regulated sport

With its rules and a referee

For many… so much fun to see

The goal to beat your opponent

To her knees

What kind of a woman

Discovers pride

Hitting someone in the eye?

What kind of a girl

Equates violence

With fighting for her equal rights?

Civilization is a long long way away

And now not even for gender’s sake

Intelligence also plays no role

With her PhD its off to slaughter she goes

What kind of a woman wants to rule a ring

Where violence and destruction make you king?

What kind of a dame wants to go 10 rounds

Beating another woman to the ground?

We paid the retail price for our tickets

Now give us a show we can’t forget

Come on now, ring that bell

Technical knockout to send that girl to hell

What kind of a man is entertained

Watching two women inflicting pain?

Watching a woman without hope

Hanging helplessly from the ropes?

Beat her, kick her, fight for your rights
